Fiat Chrysler SGW Security Gateway Information
Applies to: Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep/RAM/Dodge - selected 2018+ models
Selected 2018 and newer models (but not all!) contain a module called Security Gateway (SGW). This module isolates the vehicle CAN-BUS, infotainment (radio) CAN-BUS, and diagnostic link connector CAN-BUS (OBD-II). It prevents aftermarket diagnostic tools (such as FiCOM) from performing active diagnostic routines.
Via standard OBD-II connector (on 2018+ models without a bypass), it is only possible to read DTCs, view ECU identification, view live data, and perform autoscan. Performing active diagnostics such as clearing DTCs, running actuator tests, ECU programming, or configuration changes is not possible through the OBD-II port.
SGW Bypass Adapter
To perform active diagnostics, an SGW 8+2 bypass adapter can be used. This adapter connects directly to the vehicle wiring harness to bypass the SGW module.

How to Install SGW Bypass
1. Turn off the vehicle ignition.
2. Locate the SGW module (usually located under the dashboard or behind the central console).
3. Disconnect the 8-pin and 2-pin wiring connectors from the SGW module.
4. Plug the disconnected vehicle connectors directly into the 8+2 SGW bypass adapter.
5. Connect your diagnostic tool to the OBD-II port.
6. Turn on the ignition and perform diagnostics as normal.
SGW in Body Control Module
In some recent models, the SGW control unit is being integrated directly inside the Body Control Module (BCM).
The standard 8+2 SGW bypass adapter does NOT work on vehicles with SGW inside the Body Control Module.
To perform active diagnostics on these vehicles, you must manually tap directly onto individual CAN-BUS wires (CAN-C or CAN-B network). Direct CAN-BUS tapping is a lot more complicated and requires direct wire connection.
Security gateway (SGW) ECU presence
Please note that only 2018+ model years of listed models may have SGW ECU installed ! Earlier model years are not affected by this issue. Also SGW presence depends on multiple factors, such as vehicle equipment, sales region or manufacturing plant.
