RPM Sensor (Crankshaft Position Sensor) Replacement
What it does
- Resets and relearns engine speed (RPM) signal reference
- Restores accurate crankshaft position and speed detection
- Ensures correct ignition and injection timing
When it is required
- After replacing the RPM / crankshaft position sensor
- When engine cranks but does not start
- When intermittent stalling or sudden engine shutdown occurs
- After resolving RPM signal-related fault codes
Conditions that must be met
- New sensor correctly installed and connected
- Sensor gap and mounting position correct
- No wiring damage or connector corrosion
- Stable battery voltage
- No active ECU faults blocking learning
What happens during relearning
- ECU reads the new RPM signal
- Synchronizes crankshaft position with:
- Injection timing
- Ignition timing (if applicable)
- Stores new signal reference values
If relearning is not performed
- Hard starting or no-start condition
- Engine misfires or unstable idle
- Incorrect RPM readings
- Engine warning light may remain active
After replacement
- Start engine and let it idle
- Verify stable RPM signal in live data
- Perform a short test drive
- Confirm no RPM-related fault codes return
