Ford EGR Valve Reset
Supported coding feature by FCOM diagnostic tool https://www.obdtester.com/fcom
What it does
- Resets learned EGR adaptation values in the ECU
- Reinitializes EGR valve position and flow characteristics
- Ensures correct exhaust gas recirculation control
When it is required
- After EGR valve replacement
- After cleaning the EGR valve
- After resolving EGR-related fault codes
- When drivability issues are present:
- Rough idle
- Hesitation
- Excessive smoke
Conditions that must be met
- Engine at operating temperature (unless specified)
- No active EGR, intake, or exhaust fault codes
- Stable battery voltage during reset
- Intake system free of leaks
What happens during the reset
- ECU commands EGR valve through:
- Fully closed position
- Fully open position
- Learns:
- End stops
- Valve response speed
- Flow behaviour
- Clears stored EGR correction values
If reset is not performed
- Incorrect EGR flow
- Fault codes may return
- Increased emissions
- Reduced fuel efficiency
- Possible limp mode activation
After the reset
- Monitor EGR position and flow in live data
- Perform a short road test
- Ensure smooth engine operation
- Confirm no EGR-related warnings remain
