What it does
- Removes air from the ABS hydraulic unit
- Ensures correct brake pressure modulation
- Restores proper brake pedal feel and braking efficiency
When it is required
- After opening the brake hydraulic system
- After replacing:
- ABS hydraulic unit
- Brake master cylinder
- Brake lines or hoses
- When brake pedal feels soft or spongy
Conditions that must be met
- Brake fluid at correct level
- No external leaks in the brake system
- Compatible diagnostic tool connected
- Ignition ON, engine OFF
- Stable battery voltage
What happens during bleeding
- Diagnostic tool activates ABS solenoid valves
- Pump cycles to move trapped air
- Air is expelled through brake calipers
- Brake fluid flow is monitored
If bleeding is not performed
- Soft or inconsistent brake pedal
- Reduced braking performance
- ABS may not function correctly in emergency braking
After bleeding
- Check brake pedal firmness
- Verify brake fluid level
- Clear brake-related fault codes if present
- Perform a road test at low speed
