ACU Variant Coding

What it does

• Configures the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) to match vehicle equipment
• Defines installed safety components and system variants
• Ensures correct airbag and pretensioner deployment logic

When it is required

• After ACU replacement
• After installing or removing airbag system components
• After body repair or accident repair
• When ACU coding mismatch fault codes are present

Conditions that must be met

• Correct vehicle configuration known
• All airbag and pretensioner components properly connected
• No active airbag circuit faults
• Stable battery voltage
• Ignition ON, engine OFF

What happens during coding

• ACU is programmed with:
• Vehicle model variant
• Number and type of airbags
• Seatbelt pretensioner configuration
• Occupancy sensor presence
• System performs internal plausibility checks

If coding is not performed

• Airbag warning light remains active
• Incorrect deployment strategy
• Safety systems may not function as designed
• Fault codes persist

After coding

• Clear airbag fault memory
• Verify airbag warning light turns off
• Perform system self-check
• Confirm correct ACU configuration
