Absolute Steering Position Calibration
What it does
- Calibrates the absolute steering wheel center position
- Provides accurate steering angle data to:
- EPS (Electric Power Steering)
- ESC / ABS
- Ensures correct steering assistance and stability control behavior
When it is required
- After replacing the steering angle sensor
- After EPS module replacement
- After wheel alignment
- After steering column or rack work
- When steering or ESC fault codes are present
Conditions that must be met
- Front wheels aligned straight ahead
- Steering wheel centered
- Vehicle on level ground
- Ignition ON, engine OFF (or as instructed)
- No active EPS or ESC fault codes
- Stable battery voltage
What happens during calibration
- Sensor zero (center) position is stored
- Steering angle plausibility is verified
- Data is synchronized between EPS and ESC modules
If calibration is not performed
- Steering warning light may remain active
- Incorrect steering assistance
- ESC intervention may be incorrect
After calibration
- Turn steering wheel lock-to-lock if requested
- Perform a short test drive
- Confirm stable steering behavior
- Verify no steering-related warnings remain
