Automatic Transmission Adaptation Reset
What it does
- Clears learned shift and pressure adaptation values
- Restores transmission control to factory baseline settings
- Allows the TCU to relearn correct shift behaviour
When it is required
- After automatic transmission repair or overhaul
- After replacing:
- TCU
- Valve body
- Solenoids
- When harsh, delayed, or irregular shifting occurs
- After software update
Conditions that must be met
- Transmission fluid at correct level and temperature
- No active transmission fault codes
- Stable battery voltage
- Vehicle stationary during reset
What happens during reset
- TCU clears:
- Shift timing adaptations
- Clutch pressure values
- Torque converter control adaptations
- Control strategy returns to default values
If reset is not performed
- Old incorrect adaptations remain active
- Harsh or delayed shifts may continue
- Reduced driving comfort
- Possible transmission warnings
After the reset
- Perform adaptation drive as specified:
- Gentle acceleration
- Steady cruising
- Gradual gear changes
- Monitor shift quality
- Confirm no transmission fault codes return
