What it does
- Checks the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system installation and operation
- Verifies proper motor function, end stops, and brake pad position
- Ensures EPB is ready for normal operation or service mode
When it is required
- After replacing EPB assembly or motors
- After servicing rear brake pads or calipers
- When EPB warning lights or fault codes appear
Conditions that must be met
- Rear brakes correctly installed
- EPB motors connected and functional
- Ignition ON, engine OFF (unless instructed)
- Stable battery voltage
- No active EPB or ABS fault codes
What happens during the check
- Diagnostic tool communicates with EPB module
- System tests:
- Motor operation
- Pad engagement
- End stops
- Confirms correct EPB assembly status
If check is not performed
- EPB may not operate correctly
- Warning lights may remain active
- Risk of uneven parking brake application
- Possible EPB motor damage
After the check
- Clear any detected fault codes
- Perform a short EPB test:
- Apply and release function
- Verify normal parking brake operation
