Lambda / O2 Sensor Replacement
What it does
- Resets ECU adaptation for the new oxygen (lambda) sensor
- Ensures correct air-fuel mixture control
- Restores proper emissions and fuel efficiency
When it is required
- After replacing upstream or downstream lambda sensor
- When O2 sensor fault codes are present
- After exhaust system repairs affecting sensor readings
Conditions that must be met
- New lambda sensor correctly installed and connected
- Exhaust system sealed and leak-free
- No active O2 sensor or engine fault codes
- Ignition ON, engine OFF (unless instructed)
- Stable battery voltage
What happens during the procedure
- ECU clears old sensor adaptation values
- Measures baseline voltage and response
- Stores new reference for:
- Fuel trim calculations
- Catalyst efficiency monitoring
- Monitors sensor signal for correct operation
If procedure is not performed
- Incorrect air-fuel mixture
- Increased emissions
- Poor fuel economy
- Fault codes may remain active
After replacement
- Verify lambda sensor signal in live data
- Perform a short test drive
- Monitor fuel trims and engine performance
- Confirm no O2 sensor warning lights remain
