What it does
- Commands the electronic parking brake (EPB) to engage
- Applies and locks the rear brake actuators
- Secures the vehicle against rolling
When it is required
- After service or diagnostic work
- After releasing the parking brake for maintenance
- For testing EPB operation
- When parking brake needs to be reapplied electronically
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary
- Transmission in Park (or in gear for manual)
- Ignition ON
- Stable battery voltage
- No active EPB fault codes
What happens during the procedure
- EPB control unit drives the actuators
- Brake motors apply clamping force
- System confirms locked brake position
If procedure is not performed
- Parking brake may remain released
- Vehicle may roll when parked
- EPB status may be incorrect
After applying
- Verify EPB indicator in the cluster
- Confirm vehicle is securely held
- Check for EPB fault messages
