Refrigerant / Gas System Evacuation
What it does
- Removes air, moisture, and old refrigerant from the vehicle’s AC or gas system
- Prepares the system for correct refilling and optimal performance
- Prevents damage to the compressor and other components
When it is required
- After opening or repairing the AC system
- After replacing components such as compressor, condenser, or hoses
- Before refilling the system with new refrigerant
- After leak repair or flushing the system
Conditions that must be met
- System properly assembled and sealed
- All service ports accessible
- Vacuum pump and diagnostic tool ready
- Engine OFF
- Stable battery voltage
- No active AC fault codes
What happens during the procedure
- Vacuum pump evacuates the system
- Moisture and air removed
- Vacuum held to check for leaks
- System ready for accurate refrigerant charging
If procedure is not performed
- Moisture or air may remain in system
- Reduced cooling performance
- Possible AC component damage
- Incorrect system pressures after recharge
After evacuation
- Verify vacuum holds for the required time
- Refill with correct refrigerant type and amount
- Check system pressure and temperature
- Confirm AC operates properly
