Mercedes Gear Positions Programming
Supported coding features by StarCOM diagnostic tool https://www.obdtester.com/starcom
Gear selector - intelligent selector module (ISM)
What it does
- Programs and adapts the gear selector position values
- Synchronizes the gear lever with the transmission control unit (TCU)
- Ensures correct recognition of:
- P / R / N / D
- Manual or sport positions (if equipped)
When it is required
- After transmission control unit replacement
- After gear selector module replacement
- After wiring or linkage repairs
- When incorrect gear indication is shown in the cluster
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary
- Parking brake applied
- Ignition ON, engine OFF
- Stable battery voltage
- No active transmission fault codes
What happens during programming
- TCU enters gear learning mode
- Gear selector is moved through all positions
- Position signals are stored and validated
- Cluster display is synchronized with TCU
If programming is not performed
- Incorrect gear indication
- Transmission may not shift correctly
- Engine start may be blocked
- Safety interlocks may not function
After programming
- Verify gear positions in live data
- Start engine and check shift behavior
- Confirm correct cluster indication
- Ensure no transmission warnings remain
