Liftgate Normalization Procedure
What it does
- Relearns end positions of the powered liftgate
- Synchronizes liftgate motor and control unit
- Restores correct opening and closing operation
- Ensures proper anti-pinch and soft-close functions
When it is required
- After liftgate motor or control unit replacement
- After battery disconnection or replacement
- After mechanical adjustment of the liftgate
- When liftgate operation is irregular or stops prematurely
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary
- Liftgate free of obstructions
- Ignition ON
- Stable battery voltage
- Liftgate hardware in good mechanical condition
What happens during normalization
- Liftgate is driven to fully closed position
- Liftgate is driven to fully open position
- End positions are learned and stored
- Anti-trap and force limits are recalibrated
If normalization is not performed
- Liftgate may not open or close fully
- Anti-pinch function may trigger incorrectly
- Erratic or noisy liftgate movement
- Fault codes may remain stored
After normalization
- Test automatic open and close functions
- Verify smooth and quiet operation
- Confirm correct response to obstacle detection
