Selection Range Sensor Learning
What it does
- Learns and calibrates the transmission range sensor (PRNDL sensor)
- Ensures correct gear position detection by the ECU
- Synchronizes gear selector with transmission control unit
When it is required
- After replacing the range sensor
- After transmission control unit replacement
- After mechanical work affecting the gear selector linkage
- When incorrect gear indication is shown in the cluster
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary on level ground
- Parking brake applied
- Ignition ON, engine OFF
- Stable battery voltage
- Diagnostic tool connected
What happens during learning
- ECU detects the current gear selector position
- End positions of each gear are learned
- Sensor signals are stored and validated for:
- P / R / N / D positions
- Manual or sport modes if equipped
- Cluster display synchronized with TCU
If learning is not performed
- Incorrect gear indication in instrument cluster
- Transmission may not shift properly
- Safety interlocks may not function
- Fault codes may remain active
After learning
- Verify gear positions in live data
- Test gear selector operation in all positions
- Confirm correct transmission shifting and cluster display
- Clear any related fault codes
