Mercedes Yaw Rate Sensor Calibration
Supported coding features by StarCOM diagnostic tool https://www.obdtester.com/starcom
What it does
- Calibrates the yaw rate (rotation) sensor for the ABS / ESP system
- Ensures accurate vehicle stability and slip detection
- Synchronizes sensor with the control unit for proper ESP functionality
When it is required
- After replacing the yaw rate sensor
- After suspension or chassis repairs affecting vehicle geometry
- After ABS / ESP control unit replacement
- When ESP or stability-related warning lights appear
Conditions that must be met
- Vehicle stationary on level ground
- Ignition ON, engine OFF (or as instructed)
- Wheels straight
- Stable battery voltage
- No active critical fault codes
What happens during calibration
- Sensor zero point is established
- ECU stores baseline yaw rate values
- ESP / stability control algorithms adjusted for accurate response
- Vehicle dynamics monitored during learning phase
If calibration is not performed
- ESP or traction control may intervene incorrectly
- Vehicle stability may be compromised
- Fault codes or warning lights may remain active
- Inaccurate sensor readings may affect safety systems
After calibration
- Verify yaw rate sensor values in live data
- Test vehicle stability and ABS / ESP behavior at low speed
- Confirm no warning lights remain
